If you've already tried Manufacturing Mode you might want to mention what happened.

Confusion in the Manufacturing mode (dial lit up blue, no display), the device still doesn't seem to be recongnized by the computer.  The drive shows no properties and the pie chart shows no free space & 0 mbs free, but 0mbs used.  My computer does honk at me when I connect/disconnect it though.

Thats normal.  Manufacturing mode does not present a disk to the operating system, as noted by the unbrick guide, which you should consider reading.

I had been over the instructions prior to and now after.   I 'm not sure where you think it says in the unbrick instructions that the player won't present a disc to the OS.  I suggest you re-read the unbrick guide for the sansa e200/c200

Where does it say that it will present a disk?
