Sansa e260R v.1 hung up.
« on: December 13, 2008, 12:52:06 PM »
I have tried to get RB on the device several time unsuccessfully.  I have been in and out of "Recovery Mode" to try to uninstall any progress to allow me to start over.  My device is currently displaying the following for about 10 seconds then shuts off.

Rockbox boot loader
Version 4.0
sandisk sansa e200
partition: 0 0x0B 3814mb
partition: 1 0x84  84mb
Loading Rockbox......
Can't load rockbox.mi4
file not found
Can't load rockbox.e200
file not found

(punctuation is approximate, my eyes aren't quick enough to guarantee)

In Recovery mode my PC doesn't see my device preventing me from creating a file as suggested in the troubleshooting instructions

So, where do I go from here?

What happens if you boot the player by connecting to USB?  It looks like you already installed the bootloader but didn't install the firmware files in the right place.

It seems that you didn't put the original firmware into the system folder (or didn't name it correctly).  Have a look at the instructions here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Unbrick

It's possible to make things worse if you don't follow the directions carefully, so feel free to ask for clarification if something on that page confuses you.

I believe I have already done "worse".  I have been down the unbricking steps before and am at the result stated above.  Along with the conditions stated above, "my computer" doesn't see the sansa as a drive, there is a "g:" drive with no properties listed....I'm screwed aren't I? Give to me straight doc.  ???

If you've already tried Manufacturing Mode you might want to mention what happened.

Confusion in the Manufacturing mode (dial lit up blue, no display), the device still doesn't seem to be recongnized by the computer.  The drive shows no properties and the pie chart shows no free space & 0 mbs free, but 0mbs used.  My computer does honk at me when I connect/disconnect it though.

Thats normal.  Manufacturing mode does not present a disk to the operating system, as noted by the unbrick guide, which you should consider reading.

I had been over the instructions prior to and now after.   I 'm not sure where you think it says in the unbrick instructions that the player won't present a disc to the OS.  I suggest you re-read the unbrick guide for the sansa e200/c200

Where does it say that it will present a disk?

Well it presented a disc before, so the change just maybe could have been mentioned when the instructions talked about creating a file or dropping the mi4 file in that location.  Should I expect my player to levitate with rockbox, the instructions don't say that it won't.  Your  "expert" said

Perhaps reading the previous comments would help

They don't tell you to do either of those things.  Instead they tell you what you need to do.  Rather then complaining (incorrectly) about what it says, maybe you should just try following the instructions.

I realize you're angry but this really makes no sense at all.

I think you're confusing "recovery mode" with "manufacturing mode".

Try the manufacturing mode instructions (involving e200tool).  But make sure you're clear on exactly what needs to be done before you do it.

Not sure if I have any help. Maybe you have already solved your issues. Anyway I had problems installing on my E260R. Part was that the instructions were not complete and/or not edited for latest XP.  See my comments to cjcrawford's posting "can't install on e260r".

I don't know if it will help, but see my post under the bootloader thread...
