Llorean you say that the "." makes it invisable. but when i first put rockbox on my player it was there... with the "." now it isn't there so i deleted the "." and now when i try and start it up it says can not find .rockbox so i get on my computer and rename it .rockbox, at least i tried! but it won't let me rename it!

p.s. sorry for talking mean at you before i just want my MP3 player to work. and this problem is not in the manual. anybody know how i can rename that file/folder? maybe its my computers problem i don't know.

Why did you rename it? I'm sure nothing in the manual told you to do this, and I even told you that you needed to set it to show all files.

Simply deleting it and reinstalling Rockbox will get you back to where you were before.

The recommended way for installing / updating is Rockbox Utility nowadays anyway ... why are you doing things manually if you don't understand what you are doing and what impact it has?

So we get to do what you want whenever you want it without complaining? Thanks, I'll remember not to ever try to help you.

itan95,

Why don't you just delete whatever you have and install a fresh copy of the Rockbox folder to your player's hard-drive.  Boot the player to be sure RB runs.  Start from scratch.

Instead of becoming combative, try to think through the problem.  A complete install takes less time than you've spent being argumentative.

Messing around can be a good way to learn, but you need to 'mess around' more systematically.   You're the one 'staring at the problem' -- you have to formulate your own troubleshooting using the wiki and the manual as a guide.

Try a few things, try them three or ten times.  If you can't solve it, ask specific, carefully formulated questions, and ask politely.  Don't argue, there no profit in it.

Good luck!

Don't delete the "." or you will wind up in the same situation all over again.
