Ipod Video 30 gb Firmware Issues
« on: December 11, 2008, 05:03:47 PM »
I have a Ipod video 30g and a bunch of times the old apple firmware takes over and it won't boot up in rockbox mode. It does it mostly when i plug it into my computer. I aslo don't have any apple programs installed on my PC either. Why is my Ipod loading the apple firmware randomly? I thought the rockbox overwrites it. Anyways any kind of help would be great.

Thanks

If a USB insertion is detected then the default behavior, as far as I know, should be to boot into Apple's Disk Mode for USB connection.  Is your hold switch turned on?  Is your player initially on or off?

Sorry this took so long to reply, i forgot i posted. The hold switch is normally off and the player is normally off too when i connect it. It always boots into disk mode when connected. But sometimes after i connect and go to use it. It boots into the apple firmware.

It should only boot into the Apple firmware if the bootloader detects the Hold switch as being engaged or the Menu button as being pressed.  Booting into Disk Mode when a USB connection is detected is expected behavior.

No.  We replace it with our bootloader and move it to a new location in the firmware partition.  The Apple firmware is still bootable as mentioned in the manual and FAQ.
