H320 screen broken?
(1/1)
Petmetroid:
Hey guys. My iriver, which I have had for over a year now, looks as though the screen may have broken. Let me just be specific for just a moment: The coloration is messed up, with many of the colors completely faded often looking like a painting soaked in water. The screen messed up like this once recently, however the next day returned back to normal. Now it has returned to its damaged state and has stayed like this. I plan to dismantle the player myself to investigate the problem, but I'd like to hear from fellow iriver Rockbox users first. I was wondering if this specific problem has happened to anyone else. I'm hoping it may be some simple short that got bumped around that I could easily fix, but in case that is not true, how easy is it to replace the LCD on my H320?
LambdaCalculus:
You should be able to find a broken iriver on eBay or somewhere which you can gut for parts. Googling "iriver H300 Repair Guide" should turn up a few results for "take-it-apart" guides.
If that doesn't work, you can install a voice file for your iriver, and have Rockbox speak the menus and options out for you so you can navigate around. RBUtil can do that for you; read its wiki page (click the wiki link over on the left) for more information.
Multiplex:
Had you upgraded Rockbox? there is a thread about some iRivers being sensitive to the timings of the signals to the display, something like Rockbox drives the messages pretty fast and some displays have trouble keeping up - try a search.
EDIT:
Here are some similar reports

I don't know any of the technical details - your message just triggered a memory...

The screen is still functional. I can see everything just fine now that I have just set the color scheme to black and white, the colors are just f*cked up.

I looked at the descriptions on the other blogs, and it is not the same. My screen is not glitching or skipping pixels and lines, the colors are pretty much messed up. I'll send a picture later, but I'll 'prolly just replace the screen. I'm just making sure that it's a hardware problem and that I'm not wasting my money on repairing it.
