What new HD for Original Jukebox studio 20?

(1/2) > >>

hanak.j:
My JB20 is starting to make those dreaded clicking sounds! :'(

What have you done when this happens?  I'm thinking new drive.  What would you recommend I put into it, and where would you get it?

Looking for 80GB or more.

Thanks for your help.

Llorean:
Please don't post such questions in the "Installation" forum.

When the wiki returns, there's a hard drive replacement wiki page t hat should offer a good deal of advice, I think.

TAC109:
How old are your batteries?

As batteries age they develop a high internal resistance, and may not be able to supply enough voltage to power the hard drive, causing the clicking sounds.

Try a new set of batteries to see if that cures the problem.

hanak.j:
Batteries are new, and this even happens when plugged into AC power.  When these sounds were made by my iPod, death followed soon.

Also, I thought this was the "Repairing broken players"  forum.  Is fixing a defective HD not appropriate material? ???

Chronon:
I interpret Llorean's message as saying that it was originally in the installation forum, not here.  This is fair play for this forum.   :)

The wiki page that you want is called HardDriveReplacement.  I also found a useful table via Google whose contents should probably be added to our wiki page: http://hdmp4.com/Choose+HDD

Also, read our wiki page called BigDisk if you wish to get a drive that's larger than 137GB.
