Gigabeat Battery Find
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:33:22 AM »
I know this might belong in the wiki but, I do not have access.

My Gigabeat F40 was suffering from a ballooned failed battery and I had stopped
using it with the intention of doing the ipod battery exchange listed.

I accidently cracked a battery case for an EN-EL5 for my digital camera and inside I found a battery that is nearly the same size. The orignal was 850mah I believe. The camera battery is 1500mah.

I took scissors and clipped off the + tab so it would align with the camera battery tab. I clipped the - that went around the side and just taped the control panel onto the battery  and  then covered the battery with tape.  I had to lightly sand the inside of the cross touchpad on the front of the case because the battery was a little taller.

It worked very well.

It is a source for a replacement battery if you cannot solder.  ;D

Thanks.

How about getting yourself access and then adding it to the wiki ?

I asked twice so I could put up a few Gigabeat themes  but was denied lol.

I also only visit every so often now to get a new version.
Since I am also not a programmer I would say that having
wiki access only to put information on a new battery and
never using it again would not be that  useful.

Programming and contributing to a wiki don't have any intrinsic connection.

Why do you say that you were denied access?

When I asked I was laughed at and told my themes were too ugly.

I just wanted to share a source for a cheap/easy battery in case anyone needed one.
You can delete this entire topic if you wish as I didn't intend for it to become a big
commotion.

As much as I love Rockbox I'm not active enough to be tinkering with
the Wiki. I moved on to a large capacity player (not supported) as most
of the time my player only goes from house to car and I needed something with
way more storage capacity (500gb)  than any Rockbox target as I outgrew their capacity
even when I was using just the old Archos Recorder. Rockbox is awesome
but doesn't meet my needs with available players.

I rarely use the Gigabeat anymore.

There is no requirement that themes look good. If you asked in any of the right places, there's a log. Tell me what day it happened and I can find out who told you wrong and have a talk with them.
