Alternate software for ipod touch (yes i know RB doesnt work on touches)

I have been looking into replacing my 5.5g ipod (see http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=19638.0 ) and am considering getting a iPod touch... However not using itunes in ages (and never being a fan) i come to communities such as this for some sort of advice...

Though not technically rockbox related, I was wondering if anyone knows of alternate software similar to RB that can run the ipod touch... my main problem is trying to put music and videos on the player without the "support" of itunes.

has anyone been on the lookout for such programs? Anything to point me in the right direction would be awesome

Being as how this isn't Rockbox related at all - this will be your one and only answer before I lock the thread.

There are no replacement firmwares for the iPod Touch.

You *can* however (provided you get a 1st generation Touch, and not the 2nd generation), jailbreak it, and then install either dTunes or PwnPlayer - either of which will play music from the filesystem as well as the iTunes database on the device.
