Bricked Ipod? (Battery wont charge)
« on: December 04, 2008, 04:04:45 AM »
I have been using rockbox for a long time, and i really like it, however i think my time has come to an end...

Recently my ipod stopped charging. Tried several different USB ports, wall chargers, and other ipods charge fine, just this one will not charge. This discourages me because if i get a new one it wont be capable of running rockbox :(

Before the standard "battery dead, get new one" replies, i have switched batteries between two ipods, and the other ipod can charge and run off the battery from the bricked ipod, so thats not it.

The bad ipod can run on the charged battery, but again it will not charge and soon runs out of power.

Any ideas how to fix this?

It sounds like there may be something wrong with the charging circuit.  If you're adventurous you could try to pick up a new main board for cheap on eBay and try swap all of your hardware onto that.  If you're not so adventurous you can still find Rockboxable players online for less than you would pay retail for a new iPod.  Or you could opt for a shiny new iPod if that's what you want.  Obviously, the choice is entirely yours.

Try to charge via FireWire.
