Using Youtube Videos and more with Rockbox for e200 series
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:18:47 AM »
I am currently traveling and wanted to watch more videos while I am on the return trip back. I found some freeware programs that I  can use to quickly download videos and convert them for playback on Rockbox for e200s.

1. Pazera Software Free Video Downloader with FFMPEG
http://www.pazera-software.com/products/free-video-downloader/

Settings:

Select File name: .mpg
Select Output directory: C:\Free_Video_Downloader

Check Convert downloaded file to selected format:
MPG (MPEG-2 /MP3)

Check Delete input file after conversion (optional)
Check Overwrite prompt (optional)

To use the above just go to youtube or video.google select the video you want to download and then press copy URL and paste it into the program it will do it for you. Press Get/Convert.

2. Prism AVI / Video Converter Software with FFMPEG Freeware
http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html

Configuration
Click on File
Click on Options
Click on Conversions
Check use FFMPEG first (this will be downloaded once)
Click on ok

Settings:

Output Format: .mpg

Encoder Options:

Video
Compressor: MPEG2 (DVD Standard)
Average bitrate: 4000
Maximum bitrate: 9000

Audio
Samplerate: 44100
Bitrate: 128

Edit Output...

Check Resize Video
Select Shrink or Enlarge the video to selected size
Width: 220
Height: 176

Check Change FrameRate
FrameRate: 27.00

Convert to C:\Archive

Select Add Files + (can do more than one depending on your PC power)

When Prism is done it will play a sound effect. Now you just connect your Sansa to your PC and drag the file over to the main memory VIDEO folder or MicroSD or MicroSDHC  VIDEO folder you might have to create one isn't there.

Since I use this laptop as MCE HTPC it has recorded TV Shows so I had Star Trek episode about 59:59 which plays find on Rockbox Sansa e200 series.

Enjoy.. ;)

The forums are not the best place for static information like this. If you don't want it to get lost, then add it to the PluginMpegplayer wiki page.

Also, what's wrong with the instructions already listed at the mentioned wiki page?

Well as you are are Mod you can make it sticky? I just wanted to share the info as I am away. Rockbox does work great on the plane the FM works so well I was able to pick some stations while flying over some states. Video player works great with what I've got off youtube and what I had on this laptop.

These are 100% freeware they use the freeware FFMPEG encoder. If you got a better way I'll look into it but this could be another way.

No, because it belongs in the wiki.  Feel free to put it there.

No, because: A) I'm not a mod, and B) Stickies just tend to clutter the forums.

Anyway, this discussion's over.
