« on: December 03, 2008, 12:23:36 AM »
hey im new to rockbox. I loaded everything on my 30gig 5th gen ipod video and when i reset it, it said there was an error and the file could not be found. it also said to reset it and go to disk mode. but nothing i do actually gets rockbox to launch.
what's wrong?

What exactly did you do to install Rockbox? Which instructions did you follow?

What is the whole message (every line of it)?

Have you tried reinstalling while in disk mode?

well first off:
I downloaded the rockbox utility onto my mac then I tried to load rockbox onto my ipod...the utility told me to format the pod in windows, so i restored it with a windows comp. then i clicked on the button for "complete installation," the progress window popped up and it installed everything, bootloader, fonts, rockdoom... But it was not able to install the themes because it said the theme site was being reworked; it also said that nothing was wrong so, I ejected the ipod and it reset itself.
a few seconds later it displayed:
"
Rockbox boot loader
Version: 3.0
IPOD version: 0x000B0005
TOSHIBA MK3008GAL
Partition 1: 0x0B 28537 MB
Loading Rockbox...
Error!
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot
then SELECT+PLAY for disk mode
"
so i did what the message said with the disk mode idea, I plugged it back into my mac, and I tried reloading everything; the utility even asked about the rockbox that it detected was on the ipod, if I wanted to load over the existing rockbox. but when i ejected the pod it again did the same exact thing.

From the RockboxUtility wiki page:
Quote
(os x) Complete / Small Install is not working correctly for Sansa / Apple players: bootloader installation unmounts the player (required), but the build gets installed before the system can remount the player. You need to use the separate installs from the "Installation" tab for now.

nope i tried that method of installation and I got the same error as i said above. what else do you think I can do?
I'm just wondering, if the installation process says that the themes cannot load, doesn;t that have something to do with this? I mean if the player does not have any format to display in...just an idea. when is the themes site going to be up again?

Try the manual installation as described in the manual. I still have the impression that the build was installed to the wrong folder (was the Ipod mounted to a different location after bootloader installation?)

No.
This error is generated by the website it tries to download the themes off and is currently intended (as the website is being reworked).
