Album Artcover on iAudio X5 with Rockbox
« on: November 29, 2008, 09:35:57 AM »
Hello,
I just finished installing rockbox for my 20G iAudio X5.
I'm not a coder so I don't understand much of the stuff going on in rockbox, so I would appreciate someone helping me with some issues.

1) I would like to use the Cabbie theme on my iAudio. I installed it, and it works fine- but the problem is the Artcover of the albums is not showing.
I put the cover.bmp file (65x65, 75x75 and 100x100 tested) in the album folder but it still doesn't work.
2) I want the PictureFlowPlugIn. How can I install it?
3) I need some recommendations for cool PlugIns or AdOns for maximizing the functionality of my player.

Sorry if it's not the right forum and thanks for the time.

I would assume you mean the default theme (Cabbie v2) except you said you "installed it" - did someone port the no-album-art Cabbie to X5?
Have you read http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/AlbumArt?  cover.bmp @ 65x65 should work.

It comes with the stock build.  Are you using 3.0 or a current build?
It requires the database be initialized.

All fully operational plugins known to man ship with Rockbox.  You can search the patch tracker for works-in-progress.

1) Yes, I mean the default theme (Cabbie v2). I just reinstalled the 3.0 so I saw it is the default theme.
I tried to read the AlbumArt page on TWiki but I didn't understand what to do.
Now I have the Cabbie v2 theme, a folder of The Way Up (Pat Metheny Group record) and a 65x65 cover.bmp file in it. The theme should just see that the cover.bmp is in the folder and "attach" it to 4 tracks in it?

2) I have the 3.0. Should I delete the .rockbox folder in my root folder of the iAudio (/G) and install the stock build (if so, where can I find the stock build?)

3) Where can I turn the plugins on? Does the Settings menu in my iAudio have a Plugins section or anything?

Does the folder name match the album name as displayed on the WPS while the track is playing?

2) I have the 3.0.
That should work fine.

Look in the main menu for Plugins, then choose Demos to find Pictureflow.

1) Yes.

3) Found it, though it says "could not allocate temporary buffers, Plugin returned error".

Just to be 100% clear (because we've seen this before), cover.bmp is a bitmap image and not a jpeg image or png image named cover.bmp by accident?

Stop playback before attempting to use PictureFlow

Yep, it is a bitmap image called cover.bmp.

I stopped the playback and ran the PictureFlow Plugin. Now its stuck on "Preparing album artwork" (with a progress bar that does not move)

Let's keep it simple for now and keep the filename "cover.bmp"

Did you initialize the database?

Yes, the database is initialized.

edit: I prefer that the Artcovers will work rather than the Pictureflow (this is my concern right now).
What should I do?

If album art doesn't work, then neither will pictureflow.  See www.rockbox.org/wiki/AlbumArt for details.

I follow the instructions in that page and still nothing.
I assume I just need to put a cover.bmp (bitmap image) file in a folder of an album with the default Cabbie V2  theme and it should work (show me the image when I play any of the tracks in the said album).
Is there something else I need to do?

It sounds like you are doing everything that is needed.

If you create a 160x128 bmp, are you able to set it as the backdrop successfully?

You will need to read the manual for the exact keypresses, as the X5 is likely different to my Sansa in terms of keymapping:

ShowFiles should be set to All (this ensures you will see the bmp file).

Browse to where you have saved the bmp, then hold Select until the Context Menu appears, then choose Set As Backdrop.

There are some 'known good' backdrops in .rockbox/backdrops. If those load but yours doesn't, then the problem would appear to be with your method of creating bmps.
