Toshiba Gigabeat F10 onboard HD interface

(1/1)

ericmilam:
OK so I want to upgrade the HD and go as big as I can for the F10.  I have read all the great info on the Wiki pages.  However there is one thing I am confused about...

My HD is MK2006GAL and the model # for my Gigabeat is MEGF10.  I cracked open the case and I see that the HD is a 50pin, but the interface on the board looks ZIF.  Can anyone confirm what the interface on the board is and if I can buy a ZIF HD without a necessary int converter.

Also, has anyone installed an 8mm instead of 5mm and had that much of an impact?

I'd much rather spend $100 to get a new HD than $300 for a new HD MP3 product

Thanks in Advance,
Eric

LambdaCalculus:
The hard drive interface on the F10 is a 50-pin interface. If you want to install a ZIF drive into your Gigabeat, you'll need the appropriate converter (50-pin to ZIF).

You can install an 8mm thick drive, but then you'll need the backing from an F40 to close your Gigabeat again; the F10's backing is far too thin to close around the larger drive.

OK...so the easiest way is to find the largest capacity 5mm 50pin connector HD.  I'll take another look at your list in the wiki and find what is the best buy...last I looked the list had up to an 80 gig but when I searched online...they were like $400 or something...

Thanks,
Eric
