How do I enable displaying file playing progress in hr/min/sec?
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:54:03 PM »
I would like to enable displaying file playing progress in hr/min/sec.  My Sansa just shows a bar, but no numeric time like the original firmware or other players I'm familiar with. I've searched the player, manual and the website, with no luck.  Any suggestions? (please don't suggest I write a patch, I'm just looking for help)

This entirely depends on what the WPS you've chosen is designed to display. See the CustomWPS wiki page for the WPS syntax if you'd like to modify an existing one, or simply look through the gallery and pick one that displays what you need to be able to see.

Well, thanks, that's a start.  My problem was simply that the only significant theme change I had made was a larger font, which apparently drives the counter display off the bottom of the screen. This seems to be the case with every font over 12pt. I guess it's not know where I am or squint. Presumably there's a way to put the counter at the top, I guess I'll have to figure that out.

A theme is designed to work with a specific size of font.  If you want a bigger font, you either need to pick a theme that uses a bigger font, or edit an existing theme to work with a bigger font.

If you'd actually read the page I referenced in my response, you'd already know how to put the counter at the top.

You say that like you actually linked to it. You didn't.  I finally found it rummaging around the wiki after I played with the onboard WPS settings. There's a lot of data on the site and getting to it isn't always obvious, ex: that gallery is under the cryptic "extras". Whatever, I've gotten the idea at this point.  Right now I'm trying to figure out how the simulator works, because there's no obvious user doc for that.  I guess I'll find that eventually too.

Thanks for your help.

What does whether I linked it have to do with whether you read it?

You could've said "I can't find the page, could you help me?" Instead you ignored it, and repeated the essence of the original question I guess assuming that I hadn't provided you an actual answer?

I don't see where "I chose to ignore helpful information because I didn't understand how to access it" suddenly becomes my fault because you were unwilling to ask for help or actually search for it.

As a clue, I said it's the "CustomWPS" wiki page, and if you type that word into the "Search" box on the left there, it's the very first result. I wasn't aware that I needed to link it to save you from having to type a whole word and click one more time than you would've.

As to the simulator, I can't really help you any with it because you haven't actually asked anything. It works exactly like the player, with keyboard keys mapped to represent the physical buttons on the player. There's no user documentation for it because it's primarily been a debugging and development tool in the past, and as has been mentioned previously, this is all volunteer effort. We'd love to see you document it once you've familiarized yourself with it, but I'd hazard the guess that just like everyone else who feels not enough is documented, you don't actually want to do it yourself, you just want to imply that someone who's not you should be doing it.

Not true.  He only said that he "referenced" it.  I realize you're somewhat frustrated, but it wouldn't hurt you to be more civil with people.
