patching with rbutil
« on: November 22, 2008, 02:51:18 PM »
Could a feature be implemented into the rockbox utility so that you can feed it a patch and it will compile and insert it into the current rockbox code for you? This would be very helpful as I was unable to figure out how to compile properly.

No.

Patching and building is a process that's too complex (and too error prone) to support it from an installer tool like Rockbox Utility. Besides, we don't support patched builds anyway unless you are working on a patch, so there's no point in this for normal users, and people working on a patch don't need Rockbox Utility for installation.

Ok. Thats understandable. I was just trying to make it easier to add some nice features.

Patching and compiling is trivial compared to writing the patch - this function wouldn't make it any easier to add nice features, for the reasons bluebrother outlined.
