rockbox utility could not open ipod
hapkidoman:
Hi everyone,
I just installed rockbox utility on my linux OS (Ubuntu 8.10). It could not find my ipod (30GB video ipod) through autodetect so I manually found the mount point (/media/IPOD) and selected Ipod Video (5th gen) 30GB from the list. Then, I selected the complete installation option. Everything looks fine, it searched for the ipod and downloaded the bootloader, it then said that the download was finished. But, it said that it could not open the ipod. I thought that rockbox was installed anyway, so I did a reboot by pressing and holding the center button and the menu button until my ipod restarted, but it just went to the orginal apple logo and menu. Did I do something wrong? Why could my ipod not be opened, is it significant in order to install rockbox?
Thanks everyone..................

RBUtility needs a few privileges your user account doesn't seem to have. Try running it with sudo / gksudo.

how would I go about doing that? I'm a complete noob with all of this. The only thing that I've done in the terminal is sudo apt-get install. How do I run the program in the terminal?
saratoga:
sudo path-to-where-you-put-rbutiliy
e.g. if you put it in home:
sudo ~/rbutilqt
Llorean:
sudo ./rbutilqt from whatever folder you've downloaded it to.
This is basic Linux usage. If you're not sure how to browse and navigate the terminal, there are tutorials you can find through Google.
