transfer speeds on Rockboxed iRiver ihp-120 USB 1.1? 2.0?
ryc:
hey all
I've recently purchased a Rockboxed IHP-120 and notice when moving files onto it the transfer speeds are quite slow? 1 album (100mb) is taking approx 5mins? Is this normal?
Llorean:
This isn't a question about installing Rockbox. Please, read the POSTING IN THIS FORUM posts before posting in the future.
USB is hardware controlled on the iHP-120. While this sounds somewhat slow, it's not something that Rockbox should affect.
Multiplex:
As Llorean says the USB on the H100 is driven by dedicated hardware and has nothing to do with Rockbox (once Rockbox enables it), but I have experienced a similar issue with one of my iRivers (possibly the H300 but I thing that part of the hardware is the same).
Using one specific cable on one port of my desktop it doesn't do USB2, changing the cable or trying a different port solves it.
gevaerts:
Why is it that people keep confusing USB 2.0 and USB high speed? USB 2.0 defines three speeds : low speed (1.5Mbit/s, typically used for mice and keyboards), full speed (12MBit/s) and high speed (480MBit/s). "It doesnt do USB 2" is meaningless! A device that connects at 12MBit for whatever reason doesn't magically become a "USB 1.1" device, it's still 2.0.

Whilst technically you are no doubt correct the reason for having USB2 in most people's eyes is to get the high speed - so in slack, non technical speech, it makes some sense. (and at work it's usually me making points like yours!;-)
I think that I got the Windows "This device can perform faster" message but it was a long time ago and I can't be sure.
