Saving position problem
SxNova:
I'm using a Sansa e280 with rockbox release 3.0, but I have also used the latest build and it does the same thing.
I'm using the file browser.
I'm resuming by selecting "resume playback" lol.
By enable bookmarking, I mean turn on the option to either create one automatically or ask me to create one. By disable, I mean setting it to "no". And like I said, pressing "resume playback" would still start my mp3 at the last bookmark regardless of where I was when I paused it. It would even resume at the last bookmark even when I DELETED the bookmark. I had to set create bookmark to "no" to get "resume playback" to actually resume.
I've tested this with pretty much every different bookmark setting, but my ideal settings would be:
Bookmark on stop - Ask
Load last bookmark - No
Maintain a list of recent bookmarks - Yes.
With those settings I have this issue.
Strife89:
Back up your config file, then reset your settings and reboot (or hold Record as you boot). Then see if the problem is still there.
If the problem still occurs, reload your config file and try turning on the directory cache.
Also, I'm curious as to whether you reboot or not after deleting the bookmark. I suspect Rockbox keeps at least a few in RAM after booting, though that is only a hunch.
Chronon:
I want to point out that I also use a Rockboxed e280 and bookmarking and resume playback work fine together. So, it seems that some factor that's unique to your setup is causing this, such as settings (as Strife89 suggested).
Lear:
It is worth noting that "Resume Playback" doesn't use the bookmark system at all, so it is normal to be able to resume playback even after deleting a bookmark.
The only way I can see the autobookmark setting causing these problems is due to subtle differences in behavior during system shutdown with playback paused (causing the resume playback to not be updated to the most recent value). I've looked a bit at the code, but so far I haven't found anything that could explain it.
One thing to test: create a bookmark manually (when autobookmark is off), e.g., from the WPS context menu. That shouldn't cause any problems...
SxNova:
Well the thing is, when selecting "resume playback", it would resume from the BOOKMARK, not from where I paused it at. Even after deleting the bookmark. No matter how much farther I listened to, when I hit pause, then wanted to resume later on after the player shut off, it would resume from wherever the bookmark was created. Half hour later, hour later, didn't matter. Thats why I was annoyed, because I wanted it to resume, not load my bookmark that didn't exist and have to fast forward again. Since I've stopped using bookmarks, resume works how it should, but I'd like to have the option to bookmark, but still be able to resume at the spot I paused the track at. I'll give the manual bookmark create a try. What I did to test was set it to bookmark on stop, set my idle shut off to 1 minute, fast forwarded about a half hour, hit pause, then waited a minute til it shut off. Then I started the player up again, selected resume playback, and it would always start at the bookmark, even with the auto load bookmark setting set to "no".
I also would like to note that I have formatted my player and reloaded rockbox from scratch and still had this problem. I tried that before I even posted on the forums. I'll try the directory cache setting too. And I did reboot my player after deleting the bookmark, it was part of my testing process to let the player auto shut off.
