Use the VMWare image on VirtualBox?
(1/1)
Hillshum:
So I downloaded the VMWare disk image from download.rockbox.org or wherever it is. I unzipped it and got three files. I opened the VirtualBox disk manager and tried to add those three, but only one worked. I then created a new VM and linked it to that disk image. The first few times I booted it it seemed to have disk access errors. Now it will boot (I think) normally, attempt to start X, and switch to tty1. Ctrl+Alt+F7 gives a command line screen with just a flashing line thing at the top. startx from tty1-6 makes the screen flash and spits out some data. The last screenfull is here http://ti0ada.blu.livefilestore.com/y1pFC58IALp_oy0n63GPg2ugdLa5DyIlgFNLKOT1zUJudE5vixMLnGAemqbXjrpiUwDIZ_T9oKX7Tk/rockboxvm.bmp. Also, an IRC disscusion is in this log at 0600. Okay, so what is wrong with X? My Ubuntu VM runs fine.
Llorean:
Well the first problem would be "it's a VMWare image." Virtualbox supports opening VMWare disk images. What this means is "you can access the data on the disk from within Virtualbox." It doesn't mean you should expect the whole image to run.

I guess VMware presents a different video card than VirtualBox. Back up /etc/X11/XF86Config, then try
--- Code: ---su -c "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86"
--- End code ---
EDIT:
For future reference, use PNG for screenshots - much smaller file size than BMP, while still retaining all the quality.
