iPod 4G Photo + CF Card

(1/1)

Spanky:
From what I can tell the bootloaders here allow booting of a CF card. However, I am not able to find a definitive answer (just a ton of abruptly ended threads) if either 3.0 or the current build of Rockbox will work with a CF card. Can a dev or someone shed some light on this? Thanks.

bluebrother:
Current bootloaders do not work with CF cards -- you need one from SVN. No new bootloaders have been released after the mentioned compatibility change has been made to svn.

I didn't mean current bootloaders, see the link in the above post. It mentions support for CF modded targets. I'm more asking about the builds, I think I've seen builds to allow the use of the CF card but I thought those were implemented somewhere around 3.0? I've searched the forums twice and can't seem to find any real answers about this. As I recall it was a simple line that needed to be commented out, but if that's true, wouldn't it affect targets that used a hard drive? This would lead my imagination to believe that there would almost have to be 2 builds for the iPods (1 for hard drive, 1 for CF). I don't know, allowing myself to ponder this really gets nowhere, that's why I came here :)

Ah. SVN Rockbox builds work fine, and 3.0 too. Still you need to use a bootloader from SVN -- if you install the latest released bootloader (using ipodpatcher or Rockbox Utility) won't work. Note that you need to use ipodpatcher to install an svn bootloader. You can safely use one of the binaries attached to that task -- those include the changes, it's simply that no bootloaders have been released after the change was made. Unlike the main build, which gets updated on every source change, bootloaders get released only after some testing because some players can get seriously bricked when installing a broken bootloader. This isn't true for the Rockbox build itself, so this is simply "made".

And it kinda was a simple line, but as this is now auto-detected it's a bit more than one line ;)

Awesome! Time to go spend money :) Maybe this should be broadcasted more? Put in a sticky or something? Thanks.
