Select button won't work on my Ipod

I loaded Rockbox on my Ipod (40 GB, 3rd gen). The load seemed to work. I reset the device, it booted to rockbox, I could use the ff and rw buttons to select/go into different menu items, but the select button does not work. I ended up resetting my ipod, booted to the original firmware and the select button works just fine. I then tried resetting again and booted back to Rockbox, which loaded fine, but I'm stuck with the same problem...the select button (button in the middle of the wheel) does not work. All the other buttons seem to work fine.

Does anyone know how to get the select button working properly? Rockbox seems like a very cool interface, much better than the crapola that comes with the ipod, but it's not usable if I can't figure out how to get the select button working properly.

Any help will be much appreciated.
