Rockbox your car
« on: November 11, 2008, 08:15:55 AM »
Hi,

My wish would be to use a rockbox-powered player to listen to music in my car. The easy solution is to connect a portable player to the car player.

Is it possible, in a near future (or now), to directly flash the car player to use rockbox? Are there some early developments in this way?

Thanks,
Camille

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

The only in-car player that I ever heard of which could be "flashed" (i.e. have its firmware changed) was the "empeg". It's out of production now though.

Subsequent to that unit, I've never heard of any other head-unit which can be upgraded in this manner at all - which makes the chance of being able to do it extremely challenging (if not actually impossible).

There is (or rather was, it is no longer manufactured) actually a car player that runs Rockbox, the Neo player.

http://www.ssiamerica.com/products/neo35/

Their firmware is a fork from a very early version of Rockbox.
