No Rhapsody??
« on: November 10, 2008, 03:46:17 PM »
I found out after installing Rockbox that you can't transfer rhapsody protected songs to the device with RB on it. CRAP! I have an Ipod for unprotected songs. This device was just for rhapsody music so I didn't have to worry about buying or downloading the music.

So I uninstalled RB using the RB Utility. It now runs the way it did, but Rhapsody, and my computer dont recognize it the same way. Instead of saying sansa e250r when i plug it in it just says storage device. What happened?? How do I get it back to being recognized as a Sansa so I can use it with Rhapsody??? I am very disappointed with this whole thing.

Judging by previous posts from you, it wasn't an R model in the first place...

Assuming that it is a Rhapsody model, this should work: In the original firmware, go into Settings, then USB Mode (or something similarly named), then change it from PlaysForSure to Rhapsody.

No it doesnt seem that it was an R model despite saying so on the outside. However it did work with Rhapsody without a problem. If it isn't an R, would it still work with rhapsody, or is my device unique(retarded)?

And it doesn't say plays for sure or rhapsody in USB mode. That was my first hint that it was not an E250R, even though thats what it says on it. I got it from WOOT.com as a refurb, so I think that's why I'm having the issues

I have no idea, but since you said it did, I would assume that it did.

Describe what happens when you try to add songs and maybe someone can give you a hint.

The Rhapsody players refer to MTP mode as "Rhapsody" and MSC as "PlaysForSure".  I would guess that the Rhapsody software requires an MTP connection.  Try switching the USB mode to MTP and see if it behaves how you remember.

edit: it seems this reasoning was flawed, but makes me wonder about the naming scheme for the USB modes.

It is other way around.  Rhapsody mode is MSC mode and PlayForSure mode is MTP mode.

You are correct.  His player isn't an R model anyway, so he should put it in MTP mode according to this page.  Anyway, this is getting off topic here.  Tyler can follow Rhapsody support channels if he's interested.

This was very helpful! I switched it to MTP mode and it is once again recognized it as "Sansa E250" instead of Removable drive. Thanks guys!

So it looks like Rhapsody's protected music and RockBox cannot coexist. Any chance they will learn to get along in the near future??

There's not much chance that Rockbox will play it, no.  Rhapsody's music is encumbered with DRM, which Rockbox does not have license (nor desire) to support.  Of course, you can always dual boot into the OF to listen to the Rhapsody stuff, right?  You just have to remember to switch back to MSC when you want to transfer music for Rockbox.

No chance whatsoever.
