Anyone using current build with Sansa e270 & 01.02.18A firmware successfully

I am new to RB and I spent time on the site yesterday trying to learn something about it. I just got a Sansa e270 with 01.02.018a loaded and ran across a RB link listing compatible firmwares. I am unable to find that link again, but I dont think 01.02.18a was on the list even though it said that other versions might also work. My Sansa works great now and I dont want to chance bricking it, but I want to try Rockbox ....... REAL BAD.

My question.....Will the current Rockbox build work with my e270 w/ 01.02.18A firmware...... and should I update my sansa firmware to e200v101.02.24a(latest version) or would that be unnecessary if I am using Rockbox?
Also, If I have Rockbox installed is it necessary for me to also have the latest version of Sansa Media Converter or is that also unnecessary if I am using Rockbox.

I also saw that I would not have any problems using an 8gb SDHC card using Rockbox(which the Sansa firmware apparently will not support), but I cannot charge my Sansa via USB while using Rockbox without booting into the Sansa firmware. Am I understanding these facts correctly.

I would suggest reading the manual. Generally speaking, if it doesn't say "You need X" then you don't need X.
