e280- left channel audio not working after rockbox install

Everything else was working fine, except I get no audio in the left side in either rockbox or the original firmware.  I uninstalled rockbox and I still get no left side audio (tried different headphones too).  I did notice that when I installed (and uninstalled) the bootloader the usb connection screen on the player was stuck saying "writing", I waited forever during the install but it never went away so I stopped it using the xp "safely remove hardware" icon in the tray.  What should I do?

These players have a fragile headphone port. It's most likely just a bit of solder that needs fixed as Rockbox can't affect the original firmware's playback anyway.

thanks for the reply.  ya, that makes sense, strange coincidence though.  Any good disassembly how-tos out there?  off to google...
