Video-out for iPods without video capability?

(1/1)

rlue:
I'm curious to know whether it would be possible to implement video-out

(i.e. this feature: http://www.dvd-video-converters.com/dvdvideoguide/guide-watch-your-ipod-movie-on-tv-for-free.html)

on older iPods not built for video capability. In particular, I'm working with a 4th gen.

Naturally, as I envision it, the videos wouldn't play on the screen, but would display when the iPod were plugged into a TV.

Can tell me off the bat whether there are any insurmountable hardware issues here (e.g. headphone jack not built for RCA out, processor not capable of handling video, insufficient RAM, etc.)? I think it would be pretty cool to turn an iPod into a portable VCR (I use the older analogy because the video quality's clearly shitty).

Alternately, I would also be very excited about a solution compatible with either of these cables:

Given that the iPods built for video use a chip that so far can't be used by Rockbox, and its the output from that chip that's sent to the TV on those iPods, and that the headphone jack for the older iPods no doubt doesn't have any sort of RCA connections even with a proper cable...

Basically, I'd say you're out of luck.

Yes, the lack of a video out.

Well, the 4th gen Photo/Color should have video out - it could do picture slideshows.

Ah, was thinking of the B+W model, not the photo.
