Gigabeat F40 Battery Replacement
(1/1)
aznofazns:
Hey everyone, I haven't been in this forum for a looong time but the need has arisen.
I've been using a Gigabeat F40 with Rockbox for over two years now and the battery seems to be wearing down and doesn't last as long as before. I'm well aware of the fact that the battery isn't user replaceable without some soldering and whatnot, so I just need to know where and how I can get the battery replaced reliably and as cheaply as possible.
Also, would the hard drive breaking down be a potential problem considering I've been using the player heavily for over 2 years? I don't want to replace the battery and then have my hard drive break down a month later.

It's actually not so difficult. I just bought a iPod 4G battery from Hong Kong on ebay, replaced the battery connector (without any soldering) and it's working fine.
I guess I could get around 24 hours with this one, but in real life I get less of course. (playing games and changing to different songs)

I also use it a lot and of course the HDD is moving all the time so eventually it will break, but I've not seen many reports of that happening here in the forums.

Is there a guide on how to do this that you would recommend? I found a 1000mah Gigabeat battery on ebay for about 18 bucks after shipping.
