Probably not without special equipment or extremely good soldering skills.

However, since the device has a microsd slot, theres no reason to try and upgrade.

Yes, it is possible. The memory on the e260r is on a daughter board. You can use the daughter board from an e270 or e280 to upgrade to 6gb or 8gb.

If you look on ebay for an e270 or e280 with a broken screen, then there is a very good chance that the other electronics (including the daughter board) are good.

Yes. My player was an e260 which I changed to a 6g with the daughter board from an e270r. I later took the daughter board from an e280 to make it an 8g.

When you move the daughter board, it also moves any firmware and media that was on it. If you get a daughter board from a non-rhapsody unit, you will not have the rhapsody firmware unless you go through the steps to reload it.

Soo...do you still have the 6GB board?
Willing to part with it for a bit of cash?

Sorry, I still use it. Even though the screen is broken, it still works as a somewhat bulky 6GB flash drive.

Remember the OS is on that little board too- it looks like a little RAM chip.
I was messing with mine and when I swapped the e250R memory with a e250 they thought they were different players..!

See some pics and disassembly instructions here-

Does the daughterboard have to be from a V1 Sansa?

Yes, the V2 memory is not on a daughterboard, it is on the main board.
