C250 USB problem
« on: October 29, 2008, 08:18:48 PM »
installed rockbox
starts up fine and plays music radio etc but when i plug the USB cable in i get a dos like screen with some lines of script saying connecting etc but noticed a couple of error messages some of which have CRC in front of them. I then get a hardware failure prompt within windows saying USb disconnected malfunctioned etc.

Did a manual install of rockbox. Couldn't install bootloader using "Sansapatcher" b/c it said it failed to extract the file or something, so used the automated install utlity and specifically the second tab which allows to install the bootloader.

the unit worked fine out of the box

There is no USB mode in rockbox so you need to use the retail firmware.

what a bummer

i read somewhere that the device would be readable under the rockbox system which is why i tried to connect whilst in the rockbox menu

No. When the player is turned off, connect the cable, and it will automatically boot into the OF.

No. When the player is turned off, connect the cable, and it will automatically boot into the OF.

That is another option.  Holding left to boot into the OF then connecting as he stated will also work just fine.

Though, following eevan's advice should disable the OF from rebuilding its database (which many people find annoying).

No, following eevan's advice won't disable the c200's original firmware database refresh as this happens straight after the USB disconnect without a reboot. So just starting the c200 OF has nothing to do with said refresh (as it already should have happened) - no matter if you booted manually or by inserting the USB cable.

/me feels like having stated this hundreds of times in these forums already...

Disabling the c200's database refresh is actually a different question and answered in the SansaFAQ in the Rockbox wiki (you'll notice the different answers for e200 and c200 ;)).
