Is there a patch or a plugin that will allow me to continue to listen to my music while I have the usb cable connected? And if so how do I install it? I am always forgetting to turn on the hold button and so it gets turn on. That becomes a annoying when I want to listen to music and can't.

If you just want to charge via USB then you can hold a button while you insert the cable. On my Gigabeat I hold the "Menu" button and it prevents a USB connection from occurring, but still allows it to charge. This is mentioned in chapter 3 of the manual. There's no way to continue listening to music if you plan to establish a USB connection.
