Sansa E250 video & Photo settings

(1/1)

gonads90:
Does anybody know what settings to use for movies and pictures (Eg sansa is 176x144 which fills the screen) but that setting doesn't fill the screen in Rockbox, so is there a standard setting when converting your Avi to Mpeg ?

Chronon:
The Sansa's LCD is 176x220.  The Mpegplayer plugin rotates the output to landscape, so you want to encode your movies to 220x176.  Consult the PluginMpegplayer page on the wiki for more details on encoding.

AlexP:
Whilst the screen is 220x176, the MPEG player wiki page (www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginMpegplayer) says:

"MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video is encoded using blocks of 16x16 pixels but the display dimensions can be anything which is a multiple of 2x2 pixels. The following table shows the LCD sizes of the various Rockbox players supported by MPEGplayer, their LCD size, and the suggested resolution for approximate full-screen 4:3 and 16:9 video files. "

And then gives for the e200:

LCD Size        4:3 Video     16:9 Video
Sansa e200    220x176        220x166         220x124

or for 4:3 224x176 which will cut a tiny bit off the sides.

Chronon:
Thanks, BigBambi.  220x176 is a multiple of 2x2, but not of 16x16.  Honestly, I don't use the Mpegplayer plugin much, so I apparently missed out on this jump in performance when specifying different WxH.  There's a reason we have multiple "experts".   ;)

AlexP:
To be honest, I know next to nothing about it myself, I'm relying on the wiki page here!
