My rockbox installation expierience, might be a few bugs :P
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:15:10 PM »
I used to have Rockbox on my ipod about a year ago and I even tried to convert ppl to it via youtube and various other forums but then my ipod kinda screwed up, I still dunno what was wrong, I could still connect it to my comp and everything would be normal, it just wouldn't boot, anyways, I connected it to my computer and removed every trace of rockbox, just to fool the dolts at my local apple store and get them to fix it.

So I get it back and finally get around to putting it back on, but I  had some problems, which I did, infact, solve on my own but I thought I'd share hem with everybody. I tried using the rbutil it didn't work, only the bootloader would install, so then I tried to do it manually, once again only the bootloader would install, ie the folder I placed on he root of my ipod 5g 60GB was empty, so I go to "get info" the mac version of properties it still says there's like I can't remember if it was 1 or 10 MB's in the folder, so I open it again, still empty. I uninstall the bootloader, again, and reboot my comp in windows, yes thats right I'm dualbooting windows on a mac.

I try the rbutil again, this time the windows version, same story; Bootloader works the folder ".rockbox" is empty. so I try it manually, this time it works, everything is fine, it loads perfectly, however, I can't add theme's and other extras or updates in mac, this is a setback 'cause the windows xp is unbearably unstable, it BSOD’s every 10 minutes :(.

Anyway that's it, that's my story of putting RB on my ipod and the troubles it gave me, maybe this will alert devs to glitches, maybe not idk, but I think it may be that not only is my mac an Intel one it runs leopard so the rbutil and or manual way of doing it may need to be updated for that setup.

EDIT: it's a WinPod, :P that my be tha cause of some of these problems

They all sound like issues with a corrupt filesystem to me - probably caused by being unplugged whilst it wasn't safe to do so.

Rockbox only works on Winpods, so that's not the issue.

Please review the posting guidelines again, your post there has broken quite a few of the rules over and over.

Please don't involve us in your efforts to defraud Apple.  That's your business, not ours.

Regarding theme installation, you currently need to install them manually from the gallery in the wiki.  You can find it via the "extras" link in the sidebar.

I don't see any point in deleting threads just because you don't feel like posting.
