Using the Rockbox Installer, Since it is the recommended way.

I am getting the "No IPOD found" error, i've tried both was of manual and automated install, both tell me that my IPOD can not be found.

I go to My computer and it shows up there and i can open my ipod and browse it.

Itunes is closed out, and by searching running programs it's not even listed, i've also made sure that the sync box is not check in Itunes.

I do have admin rights, and have also grated the program admin rights (VISTA)

when i go to "Autodetect" it's finding the G:\ drive or my IPOD (80 gb V5.5 or whatever the thin video ipod is)

but then when i go to about/sys info i get.

Windows version 6.0, build 6001 (Service Pack 1)
username: xxxx
Permission: ADMIN
and nothing on the attached devices.

i've tried to use itunes to restore the IPOD and still nothing. the ipod is on a FAT32 system and i can't figure out why i can not load this software onto it.. i've also tired this in boot mode but nothing..

any suggestions/help i've read through many threads and still nothing

Thin 80GB v5.5? The only 80GB 5.5G iPod videos were thick.

It sounds to me like you have an iPod Classic. If that's the case, Rockbox will not work on it.

Does this iPod happen to have a metal faceplate?

For reference : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ipod-comparison.jpg

Those are two "black" ipods.

The one on the left is the 6th Gen, or "Ipod Classic", which Rockbox does not run on.

The one on the left is a 5th of 5.5th Gen, or "Ipod Video" - which Rockbox does run on.

i just realized that from another thread, from the serial i've realized it is a classic, i apologize for the thread.

on a side note, is there any other software floating around similar to RB since i can't load RB now?

i am assuming it wont work the last 3 are YMV

Febs:
No.  Apple has locked up the Classics pretty well to preclude the use of third-party software.  You can read more about it in the thread in the New Ports forum.
