iPod video (PLEASE HELP!)
« on: October 16, 2008, 11:21:27 PM »
I have a 30GB iPod Video.
It stopped connecting to iTunes one day, so I gave it to my friend for him to fix.
He downloaded Rockbox onto it, and now I cannot get it off.
It still won't connect to iTunes, and the times it does, it says that iTunes can't restore my iPod.
I don't have the Rockbox software on my computer..

 :'(

What can I do?!

I assume you mean ipod ...

These forums are for rockbox support, not general apple problems.

I assume he means that he doesn't have rbutil on his computer, and that he does have Rockbox on his ipod as he says:

He downloaded Rockbox onto it, and now I cannot get it off.

However, Rockbox has nothing to do with USB connections etc, that is all handled by the Apple firmware.  If you plug in USB it should automatically reboot to the Apple emergency disk mode.  Furthermore the manual describes how to dual boot to the Apple firmware, from where it is like Rockbox isn't there.

If you still can't connect and itunes refuses to restore (just as it did before you installed rockbox), this sounds like there is something more fundamental wrong with your ipod, and nothing to do with Rockbox.

If that's the case, how would his friend have installed Rockbox on it in the first place?

Sounds more to me like his computer's USB is playing up - not the ipod.

And in that sort of case, the best thing for him to do is:

1) Try different USB ports,
2) Try different iPod cables,
3) Use a different computer.
