Help With Playlist Stuff.
ThaCrip:
i was just curious as to the simplest way to create a playlist with like 5-10songs on it and that's it cause it seems like a pain in the butt and reading the manual dont seem to help much cause it has WAY to much stuff to sort through on playlist stuff.
so all i really want to do is go through either the file browser or database and manually add like 6 songs or so to a playlist and save that playlist to the device some how so when i select that .m38u file ( i think it's called that ) it will play only the songs i added to it.
and then be able to create a separate playlist at another time to.
whats the simplest way to do this?
thanks for your time
Chronon:
I would mostly just be repeating what's in sections 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 of the manual. Is there a particular problem you have with the instructions? I will point out that the manual only mentions how to add music to a dynamic playlist (via the Playlist Submenu). You can also add music to a saved playlist through the Playlist Catalog Submenu.
ThaCrip:
i guess main problem with instructions is it dont really clearly state how to do what i was asking in my first post it would seem cause they have to many options i guess.
basically all i want to do is manually select a handful of songs and save it's own .m38u file (i.e. something like "MyMainPlaylist.m38u" ) so when i load that playlist (from say File Browser) it will basically just play ONLY those songs i added to the playlist and in the order i put them in it.
i assume there's no real clear way to do this?
if not, is there any program i can use on the PC to create the playlist and then transfer the playlist file to the rockbox device and play from there? ... cause i would rather do this if it's easier.

OK...
i will tell you step by step what to do...
1.first turn the player on and go in to the file browser(if the database is updating i suggest waiting for it to finish. you can tell if its busy or not by looking for the "disc busy" icon in the upper right corner of the screen.(it looks like i zig-zig line through a rectangle) if the icon is there constantly then its probably updating. though if you don't have the auto-update feature for the database turned on you don't need to worry about this.),
navigate to the fist song you wish to add to the playlist,
enter the context menu for that song(pressing long select on that song),
select Playlist Catalog and select Add to New Playlist,
name the play list as you wish
2.then navigate to the next song you wish to add to the playlist,
enter the context menu for that song(pressing long select on that song),
select Playlist Catalog and select Add to Playlist this time(rather than Add to New Playlist),
find the playlist you created in the first step and select it,
that song has now been added that playlist
3.repeat step "2" for the remaining songs that you wish to add to that playlist
that's it! ;D
you have just created a custom play list. ;)
note: the play lists are saved as ".m3u8" which as far as i know is basically the same thing as ".m3u"
though they don't work on your computer unless you get rid of the "8" though even if you do this, any songs saved on the microSD will not play on your computer(from the playlist of course). this has to do with the way the player saves the song path in the playlist. :(

Thanks alot 'MajiKool Bling' ... that's exactly what i wanted to know! :)
there where a few thing's i had to play with to figure it out that you did not mention... but im guessing you assumed i already knew it ;) , but i picked up on it quickly just from messing with the buttons etc... but basically what you said worked, i just had to learn a few basic things in order to find out how to load and use it but it did not take me long... which is MUCH quicker than reading the manual.
now ill have to play around with some stuff to maybe figure out how to add or delete stuff in the future.... and also learning how to navigate that virtual keyboard was pissing me off lol, cause the way the buttons are setup on the e200 series... with the left and right on the d-pad which logically works the way i think it did but the 'play' button is the 'enter' not to move upward on keyboard and i kept hitting that out of reflex instead of using the wheel like it's setup in order to move up and down on virtual keyboard... i had to keep telling myself "dont hit the damn play button to move up". lol
bottom line ... that's exactly what i wanted to know ;)
p.s. thanks to Chronon anyways for the attempted help.
EDIT: this is great i was playing around with playlist related stuff even more and it seems pretty easy to add to play lists and even change the order of the playlist around pretty quick and efficiently (especially once i learned how to make the basic stuff like was explained to me by majikool bling) ... Rockbox is great and thanks to the Developers!
