How do you have your rockbox music library set up / organized?

Daveybaby:
Bugger consistency. Nobody else is going to be going through your record collection critiquing your choice of genre tags, so why worry?

The thing is to not get too anal about it. Group them in genres by whether theyre the sort of thing youre going to want to listen to if youre in a certain sort of mood. Think of it like this: If youre in the mood to listen to some ska, then would that track be the sort of thing you'd want to listen to? Sure there's going to be some overlaps here and there, but... life's too short to worry about that.

I have *tons* of dance music. Subdividing this by genre is a nightmare, so most of it i just tag as 'dance'. Some more 'hed-kandi-ish' stuff gets labelled as 'house'. Most of the ambient stuff gets labelled as 'ambient', and some of the less dancey electronic music gets labelled as 'electronic'. Job done - now i can choose what to play depending on whether i want to jump up and down or chill out. Most of my guitar music gets labelled as 'rock' regardless of whether that's pixies or the doors.

Having said that, there's no inherent problem with having 50 genres. It's all down to personal choice IMO which is what's so great about it.

Sherv:
You got it, man! I guess I should approach it from the "mood" perspective. The utility of genres, for me, comes in that form; when I wish to listen to the music which, to me, is punk, it'll be much easier to just choose that genre as opposed to creating a playlist and hunting for the right tuneage.

Hmm...something to think about!

TexasRockbox:
Artist
  ##-Album (in chronological order)
     ##-Song Title

I like having the albums in chroniclogical order that way the first Beatles album is "Please, Please Me" rather than "Abbey Road".
