Top Bar - It's Ugly on iPod (and everything else) Make it Themeable?

It would be nice to be able to have a bit larger, and in color top bar with the battery info and clock up there...something remeniscent of the iPod fw, only better, since we could make it look however we wish...

I may delve into it, but I was checking to see if anyone else had, and if nobody has, which bits of code relate to the bar?

I'd prefer it if there could be a "WPS"-style status bar, now we have viewports, rather than any work being put into the standard status bar...

If you turn the existing status bar off you are free to put one there  as large as you like!

They're referring to the status bar in the menus, not the WPS.

I think theming the status bar would be great!
I personally would love rockbox much more if i could have the status bar without it looking so terrible (i have it turned off as it does).

Would this be awfully hard?

I dont think anyone is against this idea... it just needs someone to come up with a good solution....
The recent statusbar updates could make things easier.. but imo there is still plenty of work which needs to be done (to the wps code in particular) before this can happen

Is this really necessary though? I think hiding the status bar would be the more efficient way to make it look better.
Although to be honest, other than the fact it'll eat more of my iPod's close-to-death batteries, I wouldn't mind having them theme-able. My only question is necessity (the Apple OF didn't even have a status bar, and I don't think many people had a problem with it...).

the statusbar has been in rockbox since the very beginning... its unlikely that it will even be completely dropped... And suggesting we drop it because Apple don't have it is just silly...

Hmm? I think you misunderstood me . All I meant by what I said, was that I think the status bar is perfectly fine the way it is, and that if there really were a problem with it, it should just be hidden. I never suggested we drop the status bar, and I don't think I ever would suggest that .
