iPod 80G 5.5 - High Pitched Squealing sound, tracks won't play

The subject says it all, this problem happens 75% of the time. I usually need to reboot the ipod a few times before it will play anything.

The high pitched noise starts immediately after boot-up, although sometimes it starts after a song or two has played. I can't find any pattern.

Resetting the settings does not help, with default settings the problem still happens.

I have this problem with release 3.0, the current build, and unsupported builds. 2.0 never had this problem.

You never had 2.0 (as there was never a version-numbered release for iPods before 3.0, just development revisions), we don't support unsupported builds anyway (not to mention a good deal of them use old enough SVN that they're certainly pre-3.0).

What SVN revision was the last one before this problem started?

Make sure you don't have keyclick enabled - it doesn't work very well on iPods at the moment.
