Expert Help Needed
« on: October 13, 2008, 05:44:31 AM »
Hello

First id like to say what a wonderfull piece of sorftware Rockbox is, its just a shame that im not gonna be able to use it anymore.

You see, i had successfully installed it along with the zeroslackr ipodlinux install, and everything worked fantasticly. I started to play around with the loader.cfg to get it exactly how i wanted - again no problems....

Then i had the bright idea to add a shortcut to RockDOOM......big mistake.

I added this line to my loader.cfg:

Doom @ (hd0,1)/.rockbox/rocks/games/doom.rock

I booted up the loader and choose the Doom option, it then came up with sum message that i honestly cant remember and then my ipod made a three beep siren-like sound (durr-dunn-durr) and then proceded to die...

Now my ipod makes that sound every time i press the menu button. If i try to boot in diskmode it makes the same sound. If i plug it into the usb it makes the sound and then continulously beeps really fast. Im gutted.

I understand I should have came here first and asked if it was even possible to achieve a shortcut to rockdoom, but with all the success i was having with the other shortcuts i was making i just went for it.

I would really appreciate any help, i have searched the internet for hours looking for anytype of solution, but sadly i think i may have bricked it.

Cheers

edit - i have a 5th gen ipod 30gb

Your problem is with loader2, not something we wrote or provide. Please ask the people who made it for help with it.

You're basically asking us for help with software that's not ours, and we don't know how it works.

By the way, .rock files are plugins for Rockbox, Loader can't run them on its own. Whatever problem happened because you asked loader to do something it's not supposed to do.

But your problem came as a result of software we don't provide, don't write the code for, don't know how works, and don't support.

Thanks for replying man

It sounds like you think im blaming rockbox for whats happened - maybe i worded my first post wrong -  im sorry

the sad fact is that the ipodlinux/loader2 programs seem to be dead - so no help there

i only posted this here because i hoped someone would be able to shed some light on whats happened to my ipod, if any experts had an opinion and if anyone else has had the same problem

i understand you want nothing to do with loader2 i was just looking for some much needed advice

thanks again for replying and im sorry again for posting this here.

It's not that we think that you are blaming Rockbox.  It's just that (1) we did not write Loader2, (2) we are not "experts" with Loader2, and (3) questions regarding Loader2 are off-topic in this forum.

From the sticky at the top of this forum:

Quote
This forum is for topics relating to the installation of Rockbox on Apple models only. Specifically this means questions about the installation process and/or problems you're having with it. Once you have booted Rockbox successfully even once, you should voice your concerns in other forums.

Although technically an "Installation" question, all concerns regarding using Loader 2 with Rockbox should either be directed here: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=9658.0 or should be brought up at the iPodLinux support channels.

More information on the unsupported Loader 2 can be found here: http://ipodlinux.org/Loader2

You can try posting your question in the Loader2 thread linked to above, but I really recommend that you try the ipodlinux forums, as I think that you will have more luck there.
