You should always use the "safely eject" icon in the systray before removing the player from the PC. If you use this and the PC tells you it's safe to remove the player you can do this -- all cached data has been written that time. If you don't do so the filesystem might get corrupt.. This is what I assume happened to your player and might be the reason you don't see the files on the player.

Run chkdsk on the player (from the command line)

please define "wont write". Also, did you run chkdsk on the player?

Its a tool that might be able to fix your player.  Google for instructions, or read the windows help files.

my friends e260 has what i think is the same problem...
it say writing but its actually not and is in fact done(usually)... so just do the "safe eject" before you disconect the player and it should be fine.
if you not seeing the files on your player(in rockbox) check your file view settings

but... if they're not there at all(not even on your computer)... can't help you with that... sorry

Run the command prompt from the start menu > accessories folder, and then type chkdsk then your drive letter for the sansa.

to change file view settings
check here ;D

i haven't actually read this section of the manual... i've just kinda figured things out on my own
so if that link doesn't help let me know and i can tell you step by step what i would do.

edit: you'd probably want to select "all" for "show files"

1.  Go to your browser.

2.  Type www.google.com.

3.  In the search box, type "chkdsk."

4.  Press the "search" button.

5.  Read the resulting search results list.

6.  Click on the second link, which is entitled, "How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP."  Or the third result, which is entitled, "Chkdsk."  Or the fourth, which is entitled, "MS-DOS chkdsk command help."  Or the fifth, which is entitled, "How to Understand and Use Chkdsk in Windows XP."
