Searching ... ??? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort) Killing Battery Life and Patience
« on: October 12, 2008, 04:24:04 AM »
I'm using Rockbox on my 5.5 80gig ipod and can't help but feeling like I'm getting different performance than you guys are because I did a search on this website for people with a similiar problem and only found one thread that was unanswered.

I'm using Rockbox because of the great EQ options but .... Does it always take so long for Rockbox to open and begin to play a song?

For instance ... Let's say I want to listen to my Rock playlist.

Click Database         ==> Searching ... ? ? ? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort)  (3 seconds)
Go to Genre             ==> Searching ... ? ? ? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort)  (3 seconds)
Hit "Rock" folder       ==> Searching ... ? ? ? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort)  (8 seconds)
Click on "All Tracks"  ==> Searching ... ? ? ? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort) (20 seconds) ....
Click on any song     ==> Searching ... ? ? ? found (PLAY/PAUSE to abort) (20 seconds)

So the whole process takes almost a Minute! .... This is a drag!   ??? >:( ???

Am I missing something? ...
Cause God Forbid I wanna listen to a shuffle of my entire playlist like I usually did with my ipod firmware .... Tried it once with Rockbox and it took four subway stops before I single note came out of my headphones ...

Please Help Me Out!!!!!!!

Try enabling dircache and/or load database to ram (I'm not sure about the exact name of those options)

gevaerts    Thanks for the suggestion:

I just found dircache and that really sped things up ... It can load my whole library in under 10 seconds now ... HUGE IMPROVEMENT ...

Thanks a lot.

Load your database to RAM, too; that should make it come up almost instantly. (Settings/General Settings/Database/Load to RAM). Both of these options help even on flash-based DAPs (mainly the Sansas), albeit less dramatically. :)
