want to help with clip porting
« on: October 11, 2008, 06:21:25 PM »
Hello everyone,

I've never used rockbox but have been extremely interested in it since I've heard about it.  I've just never owned a mp3 player that supported it, as I disliked iPods.  I'm a bit of an audiophile and drawn to your parametric equalizer, crossfeed, etc.

Aside from that, I am a graduating computer engineering major that has worked with digital signal processing (hearing aid sound compensation algorithms in matlab, filtering, time direction of arrival processing), as well as some embedded hardware programming ( AVRs, MSP430, FPGAs, and very minor PIC stuff).  So I'm interested in combining my interests and my studies and thought this would be a good place to start.

I've read a bit of the simple guide but thought I'd post here to get more information.  The only player I own is a clip and I've seen some progress on the clip thread.  What kind of hardware and software would I need exactly?  I'm slowly going through the big sandisk new port thread.

Also, I have a JTAG interface and I've heard we haven't found clip's recovery mode??

You just need a PC and whatever device you want to develop for.

Right now the effort is on writing drivers for the Clip, I think the JTAG cable could be useful later when we can not get rockbox to perform equally to the OF because of undocumented hardware (like, to read hardware registers).

Some code has been recently committed to SVN, you can use it to patch a firmware and run your code on the Clip.

Also I'm not sure you would get a ClipV2 in exchange of your V1, I think they still have some V1 in stock ;)
