« on: October 10, 2008, 01:17:59 AM »
heya all. i recently rockboxed my sansa e260, workin great, loving the 'box. but i have an issue, i think. no matter how long i charge it, when i start up rockbox, it says i have 55% charge. is this a rockbox problem, or do i have a defective battery? thanks in advance.

On my Archos V2 Jukebox Recorder and 5G iPod when I start up Rockbox with a fully charged battery, the indicator first shows just over half.  This is probably because initial measurements are done while the hard drive is spinning.  Then after a few minutes it climbs to almost full.

I don't think the Sansa players have charging in rockbox yet or file transfer come to that.
If you have a development environment there is a patch FS8363 for the former and you could enable USB during the build phase for the later.

im not talking about charging in rockbox, i know i cant do that. i mean, i hook it up, the OF starts up, and i can leave it there for hours, it doesnt go beyond 55%. the OF doesnt give a percent, but the battery icon is only half full. it will, however, decrease with time. so its not stuck at 55%. but i thought maybe it was a bug or something. im thinking now its more likely that the battery is defective somehow.

If your battery won't charge in ether firmware, its probably bad or your Sansa is otherwise broken.

Or (just a guess):
The battery is not the original one, but a replacement part with only around half capacity of the original...

Even if that were the case, Rockbox and the Original Firmware both would report 100%, as the maximum voltage would be the same regardless of capacity.  A lower capacity battery would simply decrease in voltage level faster.

Turn on your Sansa to the OF before plugging in the cable. Wait until the backlight turns off, then plug in the cable. Watch the battery icon. It should start to move, but don't leave your Sansa just yet! After 3-4 animation cycles, the icon will stop. Keep watching; press a button to turn on the backlight again if the backlight turns off. After five to ten seconds, the icon should start moving again. If not, unplug the cable, wait until the backlight turns off, and plug it back in.

After all that, your Sansa should charge.
