Build 18740 (doesn't) kill iPod mini 2nd gen with CF
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:32:08 AM »
iPod Mini 2g with CF card (2 of them, one with an A-Data card, one with a Transcend card).
Rockbox -> USB connection freezes on USB Plug icon screen.  (One will reset, one will not, had to pull battery).

Build 18724 works (reboots to disc mode), 18740 does not.

Are you asking a question?  Bug reports should be filed on the tracker -- follow the "bugs" link in the sidebar.  Flyspray accounts are separate from the forums so you'll have to register if you haven't already.

This doesn't "kill" the Ipod. It's a long known bug that rebooting into disc mode sometimes fails. Please don't simply talk about "killing" as this is clearly wrong.

I should have identified that.   ::)

Oh, and disc mode works fine for me with r18740M :D
(note the M -- I have the experimental usb stack enabled ;) )

Rebooting into disc mode on one of the two iPods causes the iPod to lock up, and need to disassemble/pull the battery to reboot it.  That falls into my definition of 'kills.'

I shall have to do a bug report then.  Just posted here as I know the specific build which kills the function :)

Perhaps I should seek out this 'experimental USB stack' as well.

I very much doubt that. The instructions at  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320 should always work

Yes, I have never heard of a case anywhere in which removing the battery works and the hard reset doesn't.

You cannot "kill" the reset function. It's hard wired in hardware, and it's an Apple thing. You simply can't do that.

Now you have.
Toggle HOLD on, off.  Hold MENU and Select for 10,20,30,40 seconds on or off a flat surface.  USB Plug icon remains, mocking me.
This IS a repeatable bug with the 'current' bootloader and 18740, 2nd generation Mini with an A-Data 'Speedy' CF card.  Going back to 18724, same setup, everything is peachy.

This is nonsense. Reset is a hardware function. It's tricky sometimes but it DOES work. If not your hardware is broken.

Actually, the whole reset/won't reset thing is a non issue at this point.

I was pointing out that the mini 2G with CF card would go smoothly into USB mode with 18724, and would NOT with 18740.
I would suspect 18735.

I do not understand the static over where it was reported or if it is a bug or not.  Something that worked in one build does not work in the next.  If it's "unsupported" then why did it work before and not now?

Nobody said it wasn't a bug. They told you to report bugs in the proper place (not here).

You're the first person to use the word "unsupported" in this thread.

Could you try a few other, especially newer builds with your Mini? The reason I ask is because the mentioned known bug with the automatic reboot into the original firmware hits only on some builds and vanishes/returns on - unrelated changes or even when compiling in another environment (another computer). Just want to sort out if what you are experiencing is the same bug or another thing.

Glad to help...
As we know 18740 did not work
Tested the following on 'two' CF modded minis, they work
18748, 18759, 18765, 18769, 18773.

Notes: 18773 shows up in splash as 18773M.
And 'work' and 'not work' only refers to the original problem, mini stuck on USB Plug icon when trying to go into disc mode with USB connection (from Rockbox).

Thanks and keep up the good work.
