Could you please stop trying to turn threads (not just this one) into touchscreen interface requests.
Rockbox does not yet support a touchscreen target (although they are being worked on) and I'm not sure anyone has really tried to work out how Rockbox will work on them. So the discussion is moot at this point in time, unless you are willing to step in and actually help with coding the touchscreen interface yourself.

...and in fact it seems to me that the advantage of this interface for a touchscreen target is minimal. To quote from the very same Wikipedia article:
--- Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_Media_Bar#Control ---Generally, the XMB requires 7 different options on a controller. A 4-way directional pad is used to choose categories (using the left and right directions) as well as highlighting options or actions within these categories (using the up and down directions). Two additional buttons are required to select items which are highlighted...

Seven different 'buttons' on a small touchscreen sounds tricky to me :P
GodEater:
Hell, not even code one, show us your design for one - that would be a start!
FirleFanz:
sorry
what about a commonlib with grafical inputelements like button, slider, progressbar, optionbutton. A focus for touchpad...
A defined classstructure with a Paint, position, size member for every element, so you can beside the common ones use selfwritten ones. And the class or class manager should get broadcast the inputs.
GodEater:
Does the space key on your keyboard need cleaning or something ? :)
I don't wish to put you off, but this isn't the sort of design I meant. I meant, draw something. Show us how you think the current swathe of options that Rockbox has could be better represented.
