Cross Media Bar for Rockbox?

(1/3) > >>

FirleFanz:
IMO the Cross Media Bar is an nice pluginable menu, more compliant to Touchscreens

Could it be in an RB3.x version to include a choise between textualmenu like now or TouchscreenCrossMediaBar?

I would write such menu but dont know much about the rockbox menu code. no idea how the OS manages the menu.

Llorean:
"textmenü" is not an English word. Please, try to use English as per the forum guidelines. Even "near English" isn't acceptable because it can cause problems for machine translation. The same becomes true when you write things like "rockboxmenucode" which could easily have been written as "rockbox menu code." As well, please write out full words where possible, instead of shortening things such as "include" to "inc."

As to the cross menu bar, I'm pretty sure it's quite covered by copyright belonging to Sony. Even if it weren't, representing the depth and breadth of Rockbox's menus in an icon-based menu structure like that would be very difficult.

GodEater:
Well - not difficult, but it would be unsightly as all heck, and a royal pain to navigate - much worse than the current one.

I have to agree with both Llorean and GodEater here. The XMB (as Sony calls the Cross Media Bar) is their copyright, and they're quite strict about it. Also, the XMB would be very unsightly and very unruly to work with on Rockbox's menu system.

Personally, I like the menus we have right now... I know where everything I need to find is located.

Llorean:
He has a point that our current menus are not very favorable to a touchscreen interface, but the cross menu bar would not improve that in any particularly significant manner (at least, no more so than simply increasing the font size, and allowing users to click on the words directly).
