*resolved* NANO 1st Gen - Bootloader Problems - PLEASE HELP
« on: October 07, 2008, 02:15:36 PM »
Hello - I have been doing some searching.

Installed Firware .Rockbox and new fonts as instructed. When I load bootloader I am getting the ol Error reading from disk: disk error cyclic redundancy check.

If I do an auto install with the Rockbox Util, it fails to load.

New Apple USB Cord
Back USB Port of Computer
Loaded New Itunes Software

What next? Please help. I just bought this 1st Gen so I could use Rockbox.

PLEASE?

Does the Apple firmware work properly?

That error means that the transferred data is corrupted.  It looks like you have done a good job of covering factors that could lead to bad USB connections.  Maybe there's a problem with the particular port you chose?  I don't have a good solution, unfortunately.

Because they are in different partitions on the disk (and clearly different places).  Maybe the disk has errors at the position of the firmware partition?

I guess it's worth Restoring and trying to install again.

I will do some more research - but do you think a chkdsk or any of the other windows utilities may help? How much longer do you think I should spend?

I don't know if chkdsk will fix that type of partition.  Restoring should repartition and reformat the drive and thus fix disk errors.

As long as they aren't physical in nature.

A chkdsk cannot fix the firmware partition on a ipod - there is no filesystem there for it to detect errors with.

Got it working - thanks for the help.

Bottom line - I downloaded Itunes, did a restore.

One other thing, I started the ipod in disk mode at first when it didn't work.

What did work was when I clicked the box on the Itunes "Enable Disk Use"

p.s. my front usb with a crappy aftermarket wire worked. It was either the downloading of itunes, resetting of the device, or enabling the disk use that finally worked.

THANKS AGAIN!!!
