iPod 5.5Gen 80GB won't run with original firmware
luukaz:
After installing rockbox on iPod it started loading rockbox but ended with error message "can't find file" or so.
I uninstalled rockbox, then restored iPod on my mac to macintosh format, but iPod did only show the silver apple on black screen and then restarted and repeated this cycle until I unplugged it or switched to disc mode.
Then I went to PC machine to install rockbox correctly and maybe fix this problem. I installed rockbox succesfully, but still was left unable to run with original apple firmware. Then I plugged iPod to universal dock and wow, rockbox shut down unexpectedly.
So now I am trying to get back to original firmware, because iPod works only as external harddisk, not player.
I have read manual, FAQ and searched forums on this page but couldn't find the solution.
Thanks for help,
Lukas
Llorean:
Boot it into disk mode, and restore it on a computer with iTunes for the easiest and quickest way.

I did this more than once, iPod is succesfully restored but still doesn't work as player...
Llorean:
Well, Rockbox isn't installed to flash. It's just files on the disk. If your iPod refuses to restore, it's something above and beyond anything Rockbox is involved with.
dementio:
Just an idea, but, since when you do a CF drive upgrade on IPods, ITunes restores fine. What if you just deleted the IPod partitions while in disk mode, and restore from ITunes. This would essentially rebuild the partitions as well as what should be there.
