Trouble getting rockbox to work
«

hello, i have a sansa e260. i installed rockbox, everything seemed to be going swimmingly. until it had to restart to "commit database", in which it got stuck at 5/9 for more than an hour. now, i can reach the original firmware by holding the left button, but my computer doesnt recognize it when it is plugged it. it sees it (in mass storage) as a drive letter, but explorer freezes when i try to access it.
whats the deal here? is there any way to get it back to working properly, if only with the original firmware?

The failure to access the Sansa from the original firmware seems to indicate some corruption to the OF or possibly to the filesystem. A couple of things to try:
1) Run
chkdsk /f x:
replacing
x
with the drive letter for your player.
2) Restore the original firmware using Recovery Mode and then reinstall Rockbox.

thanks for the input. but chkdsk didnt work, it just flashed the window and didnt do anything. i can see the two drives, (the sd card port and the internal drive) but they both are blank.
i did do the recovery mode thing, so it kinda works now. it starts up normal, i can play music, but when i plug it in and try to open it in wmp, it shows me all my songs, but insists that the player is full. so i cant add anything to it? also, it will only be "recognized" by my computer in mtp mode.

What do you mean flashed the window? You ran it from the command line, right? It should give some output one way or another. It sounds like you still have some filesystem errors.

i mean that i ran the command from start->run and the black command window appeared and disappeared. i made sure windows was working properly by checking another disk, and that worked fine. it just happened for the sansa disk.
but, it appears i was able to fix my problem. i somehow formatted the sansa through wmp, and am now able to transfer music. i guess i will give rockbox another go, but after that, ill just say eff it if i cant get it to work.

It sounds like you might have accidentally tried to run it on the SD slot instead of the main partition. I tried this and got similar behavior on my Sansa. Doing Run -> cmd lets me see the output as "Cannot open volume for direct access". (I didn't have a card in the slot.)
If formatting fixed your file transfer issues then it does seem to have been damage to the file system. It seems likely to me that you may need to restore the original firmware again (and Rockbox) if you formatted the main partition.
To avoid damage to the file system it's important to Safely Remove the Sansa each time. (Possibly, you can avoid this by setting the right policy in the properties for the device in the Device Manager, but I haven't checked this for myself.)

I don't really know about Winamp. Is there a way to just sync to it as a UMS device?
Yes, file transfer is handled through the OF for now. . . until Rockbox's USB stack is ready for release.
I'm glad your player is working again. Please direct further questions to an appropriate forum.
