Ejecting Ipod 3G
« on: October 05, 2008, 08:39:23 AM »
Dear All -

I seem to have managed to install RockBox 3 on my Ipod 3G. However, as soon as I eject the player from my system, it freezes completely. It does show the familiar 'OK to disconnect' screen, but does not allow me to do anything other than reboot the thing. After that it does show up the RockBox interface. Not sure if this is the expected behavior, I do find it troublesome. It also seems that my Ipod is in 'Disk Mode' all the time when connected to the computer and remains so until the reboot.

Any thoughts most appreciated!

Disc mode is not Rockbox -- we currently don't have USB on the Ipods so we rely on apples disc mode. This means that as soon as you plug in usb the player reboots into apples emergency disc mode. Once you unplug usb the player reboots again. This is the expected behaviour.

If you manually set your ipod into emergency disc mode you need to manually reset it afterwards -- that's an apple thing we can't do anything about.

You might want to explain more detailed what's troublesome about it and how you expect it to work -- I don't see a point here.

Thanks a lot for your swift reply.

I might have manually set the Ipod into 'Disk Mode', but have no clue how to disable it again. As soon as I connect the device to my computer, it enters into 'Disk Mode' and only a reboot will give me normal access.
I appreciate that this is not a RockBox issue, thanks anyway!

Well, if you connect the Ipod to the computer you want it to go to disc mode, right? What's the point in connecting it if you don't?

- If you safely eject the Ipod from the PC it won't reboot. This is normal behaviour. You need to unplug USB. This is not "hanging".
- If you want to connect your Ipod for charging, thus *not* getting a USB connection, hold Menu while plugging the in Ipod.

Please make sure to ask exact questions -- my crystal ball is broken.
